A media player pocket with Windows 8

The Acer Revo One RL85 is a desktop that fits in the hand. Its dimensions of 15,5 x 106 x 10,6 cm and weighs just one kilo allow you to take it anywhere. In fact, this compact format makes it an excellent media player with Windows 8. Just put it next to the TV and transmit the image through HDMI or DisplayPort. And if you are worried about closer to the PC with your keyboard and mouse, Acer offers two interesting alternatives. On the one hand, by the Revo has included a remote control keyboard. Simply plug the USB receiver into one of the slots on the computer and can move easily between the videos and music you have stored on your PC. And comfortably from the couch. This command includes several specific buttons to raise and lower the volume, open the main Windows screen or access the browser, in addition to stop or continue the image and fast forward or rewind. All this, as we said, with a full keyboard on the back of the handset to enter text in times of need.

On the other hand, it has also deployed a specific app for Android called Revo Suite. This application works with Bluetooth and can control the computer simply from the smartphone. One of its main advantages over traditional command is easier to move across the screen. In either form, a comprehensive tool to enjoy all the features of Windows 8 … directly from the couch at home. Acer displays this computer in two configurations, one in modern white and one in black you can spend more unnoticed to use in the classroom. At the top we have four LED status lights, and a slot for SD cards.

 Performance as

The Acer Revo One RL85 is available in several different configurations. If you use this computer as a media player most of the time, you probably do not need much power and will run smoothly basic configuration with an Intel Celeron chip. But for users who also want the performance of a single desktop, it is likely that interests you opt for a configuration with Intel Core i3 or Intel Core i5 processor last generation. In our case, we could test the configuration with an Intel Core i3-5010U dual core processor and 2.1 GHz per core, along with 8GB of RAM.

The graphic is provided by integrated graphics Intel HD Graphics 5500. Although they can cope without problems simple games and some modern titles, it is true that if we want a higher yield in the gamer section we have to go to a more powerful model brand (an example above is the Acer Predator G3-605, which we have analyzed here).

 Connections and expansion capabilities

Do not be fooled size. The Acer Revo One RL85 has the full set of connections that is presupposed to a desktop computer. The team combines four different USB ports, two of them with the USB 3.0 protocol. This technology favors rates ten times faster than traditional USB transfer. These two ports lower speed may be used in accessories like mice or keyboards that do not need to handle very large data flows. Moreover, to display the contents of your computer you can dip into your HDMI port or a mini DisplayPort. The HDMI connector is the most widespread in the world to connect devices such as laptops and TVs, while DisplayPort is becoming an increasingly strong alternative for their higher performance and ability to display content at very high resolutions such as 4K.

To accomplish this computer connecting to the network, you can dip into your Ethernet port or connect directly via WiFi. Nor could he miss your Bluetooth connectivity, a useful technology to use extra features of the model and manage the PC with mobile or synchronize a compatible external speaker. The connections are completed with digital audio output.

As for expansion capabilities, the Revo One hides a very interesting surprise. Pressing a small button on the housing we can open the computer and leave discovered two extra compartments to introduce 2.5-inch hard drives (maximum space of this PC rises to 6 TB). The exchange is very easy and quick and allows us to create the combination that best suits our needs. In our case, Acer included two hard drives Samsung 1.5TB each with a remarkable performance when starting the system. These disks can be configured in RAID to improve performance or security of the data we have stored.
